What Happened to Monday debuts Friday, August 17th exclusively on Netflix. While most reviewers have praised its original concept, most critics have found the film underwhelming.Ĭollider ’s Matt Goldberg writes that What Happened to Monday “never lives up to its promising start, and by the end it becomes an utter chore.” Darren Franich at Entertainment Weekly, meanwhile, feels the film “meanders too much, never quite loses its layer of gray-grim seriousness, gets talky when you want it to get funky.” Still, any original science fiction offering is welcome in my book Netflix’s sci-fi offerings have been severely thinned-out as of late, filling up with CGI-bloated superhero movies rather than the thought-provoking forward-looking tales science fiction is known for. Early reviews haven’t been too kind on the film, though. Willem Dafoe and Glenn Close co-star, and was directed by Finnish filmmaker Tommy Wirkola ( Dead Snow, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters ). Rapace’s seven characters all feature a somewhat distinct look, giving the actress a chance to show off her physical acting prowess by making each one of the seven sisters look and ‘feel’ like a completely unique person.ĭespite being relatively under-hyped, the film boasts some A-list talent. The film stars Swedish actress Noomi Rapace ( Prometheus, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ) as seven different characters – septuplets, actually. The streaming service released a clip today for the soon-to-be released science fiction film What Happened to Monday, a new original production which has received little attention.
